Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge July 24, 2019

The Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is hosted by Long and Short Reviews.  This week’s topic is: my favorite quotes from books. 

Forgive me as this might get out of hand.  I love quotes and I tend to save a ton of them.  It’s helpful that I can highlight things that appeal to me on my Kindle and then access them later on when I need them.  Probably also adds to the addiction I have.

First, I want to copy and paste the entirety of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series because this book is just so darn quotable (not to mention relatable).  But I’ll refrain and hit the highlights:

Probably the best known and most useful quote from this book is simply what’s on the cover of The Guide:

“Don’t Panic.”

Then, one I quote often because I work in construction:

“Would it save you a lot of time if I just gave up and went mad now?”

Lastly, my favorite, because it explains so much:

“There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.

There is another theory which states that this has already happened.”

Okay, so enough Douglas Adams (as if that’s even possible).

I recently finished reading The Last Wish: Introducing The Witcher by Andrzej Sapkowski and was rather surprised at how astute the witcher, Geralt, could be.  This really stood out:

“There’s a grain of truth in every fairy tale,” said the witcher quietly. “Love and blood. They both possess a mighty power. Wizards and learned men have been racking their brains over this for years, but they haven’t arrived at anything except that—”

“That what, Geralt?”

“It has to be true love.”

There had to be something in there, some useful tips for his situation, a homeopathic remedy you could apply when you came down with a bad case of the devil.

And lastly, to close this out (because I could go on forever, sorry), a quote I first read in the 8th grade that has stuck with me for a long, long time:

Gandalf looked at him. “My dear Bilbo!” he said. “Something is the matter with you! You are not the hobbit that you were.”

Not the most famous quote from The Hobbit, but it’s my favorite because it reminds me that you’re never going to be the same hobbit you were yesterday.  For better or for worse, you’re going to change.
