Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge June 24, 2020

wednesdaybloggingchallenge

The Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is hosted by Long and Short Reviews.  This week’s topic is: my “go to” book or movie for a pick me up.

I’m not much of a re-reader, so I generally don’t reach for an old favorite when I’m down.  However, there is one book that never fails to make me smile and, when I need a seriously good laugh, I always go for The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams.  Even better is the audiobook, read by Stephen Fry.  His terribly posh voice reading such ridiculous words is a huge win.

Movies, on the other hand, I can watch over and over again.  My top three favorites for distraction are The Princess BrideTombstone, and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.  The first is just a fun, feel-good movie.  The second is all about justice, family, and friendship.  The last is a huge chunk of my childhood and a movie I can quote from beginning to end without the movie even playing.

Honorable mention to The Man From U.N.C.L.E.  I love Henry Cavill and this movie cracked me up.

    1. Awesome! I love them, too, for different reasons. And my long-time friend and I loved Tombstone so much, we took a road trip there about 15 years ago. 🙂

  1. How did I not know The Man From U.N.C.L.E. was redone? Also, agree with your other choices–I saw Willy Wonka in the theater (yes, I’m old) and have loved it ever since….

    1. I don’t know, but you need to see it! I finally broke down and bought a copy because I really enjoyed it.

Hahaha – it came out three years before I was born, but I wish that had been one I saw in the theaters. Still one of my all-time faves, even if my kids think I’m nuts. 🙂

  2. Oh The Man from UNCLE was so much fun! And Henry… dear, sexy Henry. I could watch him for hours.
The Princess Bride has been a popular choice in this challenge. Perfectly understandable!.

    1. Yes… I love me some Henry. Really enjoyed him in The Witcher and am excited for Enola Holmes too!

It’s such a goofy movie that you can’t help but love it.
