Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge July 15, 2020

The Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is hosted by Long and Short Reviews.  This week’s topic is: things I collect.

I’m not sure we’re ready to have this conversation, honestly.  It’s been joked that I have a big collection of little collections and I think that’s pretty spot on.

When I was younger, I collected baseball cards.  I loved watching the games with my grandfather and my uncle during the summers.  It was something – both the watching and the collecting – that I gave up when I moved in with my then-boyfriend, later-husband.  Not enough space to keep it all.

Books.  Especially cookbooks!  This is probably a gimme, but you know, worth mentioning, right?

Pens, pencils, stationary, notebooks… I like to write letters and lists and all kinds of things, so these are necessary items!

Tarot and oracle decks.  I got into reading tarot back in high school, but it’s only been recently that I’ve started collecting decks.  I’m not sure why it took so long, but here we are.  My favorite deck is the Vertigo Tarot.

It’s just so not like your standard deck that I can’t help but love it.  And for fun, I have my Cat Gurus set.

This is really cute and a lot of fun.  When I’m down or having a rough day, I like to pull a card and read it because it always makes me smile.

I won’t bore you with pictures of all my decks, so you can relax.  My collection also includes: The Faeries Oracle by Brian Froud, the Joie de Vivre tarot by Paulina Cassidy, the Buckland Romani Tarot, and the Food Fortunes Tarot deck.  There’s also this weird Russian Gypsy Fortune Telling Cards set I have that I haven’t had a lot of time to play with yet.  But it’s… interesting.  I have a lot of fun with the Food Fortunes dekc, but I’m also ridiculous so…

(I also have a slight obsession with the Romani people, too, in case you haven’t guessed, but that’s another story for another topic.)

Things that are vampire related.  I have toys, stuffed animals, shirts, books, Pop Vinyls, and even a cute little garlic crusher that are all vampire themed.  That last item, Troy bought for me on a whim because he thought it was funny.  And I have to say, I laugh every time its head rolls towards me in the drawer with my other cooking utensils.

M&M dispensers.  This was more of Troy’s collection, but I bought almost all of them for him over the years, so I guess it counts as mine, too?

Lastly, my more recent obsession (meaning the last couple years) has been Funko Pop Vinyls.  We started seeing them first at Hot Topic and then, they started popping up (no pun intended) everywhere.  They’re really cute and so hard to resist because I think any and every fandom you can imagine is represented.  This was my most recent acquistion and I freaked out when I saw it up for preorder:

As you can see by what’s behind the Pops, this is one of my favorite series ever.  Now, if I can only get Jarlaxle, I’d be a happy girl.

The best thing about my Pop collection is that it contains a bit of everything.  I have Minions, Snoopy, Voltron (no joke), and one heck of a lot of Supernatural.  This is amusing because my husband was a HUGE fan of Supernatural.  I honestly think he had a bit of a crush on Misha Collins as Castiel.  When I started watching the series on Netflix a few years ago, every day he’d ask, “Have you met Cas yet?  I like Cas.”  And he proved it by buying me Castiel (and Dean!  and Crowley!) Pops for my birthday and Christmas.  Troy was probably my biggest enabler, but for a lot of these things?  I think he bought them for me so he could have them, too, and not feel silly about it.

It is kind of frightening though because a friend told me about the Funko app that allows you to scan your items and tells you what they’re worth.  I apparently have a collection of ridiculous figures worth close to $600 right now.  Guess I should be happy he bought me that Apppa and Aang now, huh?

So, now that I’ve made your eyes roll out of your heads, what do you collect?

    1. They really are since there’s such a huge variety of them out there these days. And I do read the cards although I wouldn’t really call it reading fortunes. Maybe just giving guidance? 🙂

  1. Those are all really cool. I’ve successfully resisted the Funko Pops so far, but I recognized Drizzt & Guenhwyvar immediately. Thanks for stopping by!

  2. it’s all good. Dh enables my pen collection. when they go somewhere (usually to leave me to write), they bring me back a pen. I love it. I still love me some baseball, too. I don’t know where my cards are, but I do have some 80s and 90s ones…somewhere…. 🙂

  3. Quality pens. You know, the ones that never smear or blot. Everyone in this house knows better than to walk off with one of my pens. And magnets. We have magnets from nearly every place we’ve visited.

    1. Yes, I love a good pen. And so do my children because mine always disappear. *sigh* Oh, I love magnets! Don’t have many any longer, but I do love them.
