The Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is hosted by Long and Short Reviews. This week’s topic is: favorite book or movie quotes (and why).
I’m not sure we’re ready to have this conversation, honestly. Because I could go on forever with this stuff.
There are so many movie quotes that have become a part of my normal vocabulary but, of course, I can’t think of most of them.
“Well… bye.” is one of my favorites. It sounds silly but when you put it into context, it makes more sense. In Tombstone, Wyatt Earp has just given Curly Bill this big lecture on everything wrong with the world and Curly Bill looks up at him and says, “Well… bye.” Kind of like ‘don’t let the door hit you on the way out’. And it’s fun because most people I know don’t get it.
“Also? I can kill you with my brain.” This was from Firefly. River really was the best character on that show. I love this line because you never really know what someone can do until you push them too far.
Honorable mention to the Firefly theme song. There’s a line in the chorus that says, “I don’t care, I’m still free, you can’t take the sky from me.” I say this to myself when I feel like I can’t go any farther. Okay, who am I kidding, I like to sing this out loud as motivation.
One last one from media:
“I’ll interrogate the cat.” Castiel says this in one of the nuttiest and most amusing episodes of Supernatural. Being an angel, Cas doesn’t always get human idioms or behavior, which only makes this even funnier. (And the cat gets the last word even.)
Now for the bookish portion of this program. Ha. See, I told you we weren’t ready for this conversation.
“My dear Bilbo, you’re not the hobbit that you once were.” This is spoken by Gandalf at the end of The Hobbit. I like it because Bilbo was very content to stay in the Shire, eat second breakfast, and garden but by the end of his adventure, he’d completely changed. It reminds me that every day I’m changing, evolving, and becoming someone other than the Hobbit you knew me to be.
“There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened.” This is from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and, while I could honestly sit here and quote the entire series to you, this is one that has stuck with me since the first time I read it. Why? Because it helps me come to grips with the contradictions and craziness in our world that I can’t otherwise explain.
Honorable mention: “Voon,” said the mattress. I like this simply because it makes zero sense to anyone who doesn’t know where it came from.
Lastly, and just for fun, one from Meg Gardiner’s UNSUB: “Compared to Narcotics, Homicide is a Zen garden. Detectives hardly even get to break the speed limit.” I love this because it’s the kind of thing you’d hear on a television show. But also kind of in real life, too.
Those are good ones. I have no idea about the mattress one, but hey, that’s okay. 🙂

Thanks! Hahaha… yeah, I doubt most people have any idea about the mattress one. LOL

Love it, and it’s great to see another Hitchhiker’s Guide reference. The River Tam line is fun, too. My list is here.

I could quote that entire series, I swear. Always makes me happy to find someone else who gets it. 🙂

‘”voon”said the mattress’ is a great response. I haven’t thought about that quote in years.

I don’t know why that one sticks with me so much, but I pull it out at times when I don’t know what else to say. LOL

I’ve got to read Hitchhiker’s Guide after reading all the quotes today. https://pmprescott.blogspot.com/2020/08/wc-081920.html

If you enjoy ridiculous stuff, you’ll love it! But if you have a low tolerance for silliness, skip it. 🙂

I’m trying to think of some of my favorites, but the first ones that pop to mind all come from South Park. “Donkey boner!”

I think you’ve been sharing your cat’s nip today. 😀 But then the episode with the alien cows or whatever they were sticks in my head. “Moo. Moo moo moo. Moo.”

It’s a good thing I’m alone in the office right now or my boss would be sending me off for a random drug test. Yeah, I laughed way too hard at that.

How can you not? And how can we forget “screw you guys; I’m going home.”

Right? That is a classic and one you can work into conversation much too easily way too often.

I absolutely knew you’d quote from “Hitchhiker’s…” largely because you already have to me in the past 🙂 And it is very quotable.

Hahaha… yeah, well, I’m predictable that way, I guess. 😀 I’m just proud of myself for not mentioning a single Princess Bride quote. 🙂

I tried really hard to dig a little deeper than that! No Princess Bride OR Tombstone this go around. Yay me! LOL
