Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge: February 3, 2021

The Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is hosted by Long and Short Reviews.  This week’s topic is: a few of my favorite things.

I promise, I won’t start singing to you.

Animals.  I don’t care if they’re furry or scaly or whatever, I adore animals.  Especially my cats.  And Sampson, RIP dear beardie boy.

Books.  Because, duh.  More to the point, stories.

Music because it is the soundtrack to our lives, right?

My Peloton bike.  This is a bit materialistic, but I’m still going with it.  Although I haven’t been riding lately, I can’t even tell you how much I rely on this thing for stress relief.  And the community that comes with it, if you can find the right groups, is amazing.

My wok.  When my husband and I moved in together back in like 1996, his dad gave me their old, abused wok he’d had forever.  Eventually, I broke the handle and they took pity on me and bought me a new one for Christmas.  This thing is big enough to feed an army and when fully loaded with fried rice, I can’t even lift it. Hahaha.

Lastly, since so many people are buried under snow and ice and yuck, I love the desert.  It’s been my home for over forty years and I wouldn’t change it for anything.

What makes you happy?

  1. Now I want a wok! That sounds like such a handy thing to have around.

Your Peloton bike sounds awesome, too. I hope you find time to ride it again soon.

I must say that I’m a wee bit jealous of your desert home when Canada is covered in snow and ice. 🙂

    1. A wok is SO useful! I use it to make scrambled eggs whenever we’d have breakfast for dinner. Hahaha.

I love my bike, but what’s even better is that they have so much more than cycling. There’s yoga, meditation, pilates, barre, strength, etc. It’s better than a gym. LOL And thanks, it’s more of a motivation thing but I’m working on it.

Ugh, I can’t even imagine. My friend near Philadelphia, PA, got something like 22″ and I’m 1000000% NOPE on that, sorry. Stay warm!

  2. I am with you on the animals. I spent my youth reading the animal encyclopedia (my dad loved animals too so bought it for him) from Aardvark to Zebu, then starting all over again.

  3. I also can’t live without my animals. I love my kitty too much. But, I really need to invest in a good wok or just a larger pan in general. My husband eats like a freaking starving bear sometimes and so a big pan like that might be useful 😉

    1. I have three cats so I know what you mean. They bring so much joy to our lives. Something deep and wide would work wonderfully if you don’t want a wok. I bought a Chrissy Tiegan pan at Target that is very similar to a wok but not as heavy. And much cheaper. LOL! I hear you on the appetite, too!

  4. Animals are awesome for sure. 🙂 I’ve always wanted to try making a stir fry with a wok but for one reason or another, never tried it. Now you’ve got me thinking… I might have to add a woke to my Amazon wish list and maybe someone in my family will take pity on me, too. 🙂 Great list!

    1. Yeah, I can’t imagine not having an animal in my life. Even if it’s a hamster or a fish, you know? Do it! Stir-fry is super easy to be honest. And it’s always so good.

  5. I’ve heard good things about Peloton. I did buy a treadmill at a used store, and it’s great stress relief. As for books, could you pick favorites?

    1. I love it for that reason – it’s great to get on, ride, and sweat, and destress. As far as books go, I can pick one – The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. It never fails to make me laugh and every time I read it, I discover something new. It’s also the only book I’ve ever re-read more than once. Other than that, it depends on my mood. LOL

  6. I love your list. Doing stir fry in a pan just isn’t the same, so I’m with you on the wok — I don’t have one because we don’t have enough storage space, unfortunately, but I wish we did. I’m also a huge fan (and collector) of music. So basically: yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes!

    My answer is here.

    1. Thank you! And no, it’s not. I hear you on the space issue because my wok is huge, they’re not easy to store at all. Agreed on the music – how people can say they don’t listen to music baffles me.

      1. Four of my cats have come from someone trying to get rid of said feline. Of course I took them in. One just showed up and decided he was a dog and should live with the tot. He’s a cat and the tot loved him, so he stayed. Everyone is welcome here, but I wish the neighbor cats wouldn’t hang out so long.
