Mini Review: The Wickeds by Gayle Foreman

55817049._sx318_The reviled villainesses of Snow White, Cinderella, and Rapunzel team up to set the record straight in a subversively funny short story by the #1 New York Times bestselling author of If I Stay.

Envious queen? Evil stepmother? Kidnapping hag? Elsinora, Gwendolyn, and Marguerite are through with warts-and-all tabloids, ugly lies, and the three ungrateful brats who pitted them against each other and the world. But maybe there’s more to the stories than even the Wickeds know. Is it time to finally get revenge? After all, they’re due for a happily-enough-ever-after. Even if they have to write it themselves.

Every now and then, Amazon releases a series of short e-books with companion audiobooks that are available for free through Kindle Unlimited.  I’m not sure if they’re part of the Prime Reading program or not, but they’re inexpensive and always good reads.

Right now, they have what they’re calling the Faraway Collection, fairy tales for the here and now, they’re calling them. I couldn’t resist because fairy tale retellings and twists on the originals are a favorite genre of mine.  The Wickeds was the first one I grabbed and I’m so glad I did.  I laughed out loud through most of this.  When one of the Wickeds called the Magic Mirror a dick, I about lost it.  Because, I mean, it’s the truth, right?  Hearing the stories told from the other side is a lot of fun and gives you a bit of sympathy for those wicked stepmothers and such.  Can’t wait to get into the next in the series, honestly.
