The Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is hosted by Long and Short Reviews. This week’s topic is: favorite scary monster.
This might be obvious if you know me, but I am obsessed with vampires and have been since I was a kid. I know, I know, they’re so cliché at this point, but I can’t help it. They’re my favorite monster, next to Grover. But he’s not very scary, is he?
The Classic: Dracula
The New Classic: Lestat de Lioncourt
The one that started it all (for me): The Count
A fun twist on the original: Dracula (Hotel Transylvania)
My favorite anime version: Vampire Hunter D
I could go on, but I don’t want to bore you. Plus, I’m at work and I really ought to get something done this morning, I think. Hah!
Have a happy Halloween once it rolls around.
(Sorry he’s so large, but Flikr is weird – if I resize, they lose their animation.)
I don’t think vampires are cliche. They’re more classic. I love a good vampire story. Dracula is one of my favourite books.

Happy to hear you think so! I loved Dracula the first time I read it, appreciated it even more when I did a reread a couple of years ago. Classic for a reason. 🙂

Vampires are absolutely a solid choice, and for good reasons. And since I’m apparently throwing out references for underrated vampire stories in my responses to this prompt, let me add Suzy McKee Charnas’ The Vampire Tapestry, which is built around the idea of a biologically feasible (but still very compelling) vampire.

OMG, I know that book! Read it a long time ago. ❤

Vampires are a classic for a reason – and I don’t think they’re cliche because everyone tries to put their own spin on them. No matter how many vampire novels and series come out, they’re all trying to breath new life into them to make them different and that’s exciting to me!

You make a great point! I just know that the market was a bit oversaturated at a point. I still love them though. 🙂

I like this list. I’ve long abandoned too much horror in my reading and watching, but I love a complex villain.

Thank you! I got away from horror myself, only just starting to get back into it recently. But, I agree. I love a villain who has reasons behind his horrid actions, even if they don’t make sense in the real world.
