The Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is hosted by Long and Short Reviews. This week’s topic is: what I read when I don’t feel well.
To be honest, when I’m not feeling well, I generally don’t read. I’ll curl up in my chair, with a blanket and a cat or two, and watch something mindless. Comedies usually, but a good superhero flick works nicely, too.
When I’m just a little under the weather and have enough brain power to read, but not enough to read something heavy, I go for two things.
Short stories. I always keep a few collections of these on hand. Sometimes, I’m not in the mood to start a whole new book and other times I don’t have the mental capacity to stick with something for more than ten or fifteen pages.
A couple of my recent favorites:
Meaty by Samantha Irby (okay, so this is a collection of funny, nonfiction essays, but it still fits.)
Manga and graphic novels. As a product of the 80’s, I watched a ton of anime and anime-like cartoons after school. It was only natural that I’d gravitate to manga eventually.
Some that I’ve enjoyed:
Ao Haru Ride – a really cute high school romance story
Vampire Knight – boarding school but with vampires? Yas.
Blackbird – a girl who can see demons and is destined to become someone’s bride.
Batman & Dracula: Red Rain – My husband stumbled across this one day in a comic store. Knowing how obsessed I was with vampires, he had to buy it.
